The New Mrs. Collins
by Quanie Miller

Genre: Supernatural/Paranormal Suspense

* * * * *

Leena Williams is about to be the new Mrs. Collins and she could not be happier.

Until the letter came. From the woman who claims SHE is going to be the new Mrs. Collins.

It's all downhill from there. Leena is a woman left at the altar and her ex-fiancee' has little to say for himself. But boy oh boy, the folk in town have more than enough to wag their tongues at! The new Mrs. Collins is stunningly gorgeous, she owns a lingerie and kinky toys shop, and she's a homewrecker to boot. Leena knows that's not all that Adira Collins is. But how can she be sure that the strange goings-on aren't just her imagination? That there really is a bad seed inside the new Mrs. Collins?

I was given a copy of this supernatural story by the author in exchange for my honest review, and I will tell you it's a gem! Full of southern charm, suspense, mystery, paranormal happenings, and blood in the eye, "The New Mrs. Collins" is a book you'll not want to put down until you've lost a night of sleep and read it straight through to the end. Both thumbs up for this one!

"Dead in Bed" by Bailey Simms (5 Stars)

* * * * *
Dead in Bed
The Complete Novel
by Bailey Simms

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Horror

* * * * *

I was given a copy of this truly unique and original tale by the young lady who wrote it. Instantly intrigued from the first page, (who wouldn't be? It begins with the main character naked in a motel room with no idea how she got there), "Dead in Bed" keeps you guessing, gawking, and laughing from start to finish.

Told from a first person perspective, our protagonist wakes from a night of sex and booze with no idea how she got to the Starlight Motel or with whom she'd had her night of debauchery. Her iffy memories recall the unlikelihood that it was her husband she'd shared the encounter with, and she is forced to backtrack to the evening before, which started with an unexpected and unexpectedly mutilated dead body and her brother in law, who is too hot and under-appreciated by his wife. Naturally, a trip to the beer garden afterwards seems the thing to do. Meeting up with old friends and making a new one was great and all, but which one of them had she gone to a hotel with...?

Ashley is left wondering as she tries to head back to the fairgrounds where she assumes she left her vehicle and meets a few unexpected surprises: someone in the back seat, a road block preventing her from leaving the fairground, and a gun in the front seat of her car.

And that is just the beginning. The book picks up again as Ashley is in a race to find out what's happening to her friends and family, why people are acting out their sexual frustrations to horrifying consequences, why there are people dying, and what manner of grotesquery is living inside the human minds of these victims? Literally!

"Dead in Bed" is a horror mystery centered on a terrifying illness that causes sexual aggression in its victims. A thoroughly entertaining and oft times shocking read written by a very talented gal who shares her own personal story with the readers at the end of each 'chapter' or 'installment'. I cannot say enough how impressed I am with her and her book, and I hope to read so much more from her in the future!

Don't want to commit to buying the book yet? Good news! "Dead in Bed" is a 7 part serial and you can get the first part at amazon.com for free!

"I, Mars (Mindcop Dossiers #2)" by T.A. Uner (4 Stars)

* * * *
I, Mars
The Mindcop Dossiers #2
by T.A. Uner

Genre: Sci-fi/Paranormal

* * * *

**I was given a copy of this title after reading and reviewing the first book in this series, "Doctor Mars", by the author in exchange for my honest review.**

"I, Mars" (I love the titles in this series) takes place on Mars and the planet's moon, Phobos, with the latter's mining facility (Javelin) now seized by the genetically engineered terrorist known as Slow Fly. Slow Fly is a bad dude and he's abducted Liberty Rise's assumed dead boyfriend. And he's using him to control "Regulator", the main computer at Javelin, attempting to turn man and machine into an omnipotent weapon at his disposal.

When Mindcop mutant, Liberty, discovers that Cal might not be as dead as everyone believed, she takes matters into her own hands, defying orders and using whatever means necessary to save the man that she loves. Which also means she's in it for a showdown with the nefarious Slow Fly.

I found this book to be even more enjoyable than book 1, my issues with "Doctor Mars" mainly due to a lack of descriptive details and background history of Mars and it's mutants. At the end of this novella, the author explains that the first book was purposefully lacking these missing details in order to urge the reader to use their imaginations. I honestly believe that his decision to add in more detail in "I, Mars" to be a winning choice. Yes, we need to use our imaginations when we read, but we also need some guidelines. The reader doesn't want to build from scratch, after all, and one example is the author's setting of the planet Mars. In Book 1, we only know that Mars was terraformed to have a breathable atmosphere. But I wanted to know what that meant. Was there still red desert on the planet's surface? What did the sky look like? Did Mars look like a second Earth? In Book 2, the author gives us the answers to these questions, and more, and I, for one, was delighted to read them!

Though I'd like to comment on the ending and the showdown, both sweet for different reasons, I shall refrain. I don't want to give anything away. =D

"Doctor Mars (Mindcop Dossiers #1)" by T.A. Uner (4 Stars)

* * * *
Doctor Mars
The Mindcop Dossiers #1
by T.A. Uner

Genre: Sci-fi/Paranormal

* * * *

I was given a copy of this short story (43 pages) by the author in exchange for my honest review, and he was right - you can knock this book out while relaxing in the sauna (or on your couch with a lazy lunch, maybe listening to the cheeping of birds outside, a lovely fan blowing on your face... or heck, I don't know, while waiting in your doctor's office!)! And that was both good for me, and where I also might have liked a wee bit more information to back up the story.

Short stories can be hard to pull off anyway. There is a lot of detail you have to condense, especially if you're inviting someone into a world of your own design. This book takes place on Mars, long since colonized and terraformed with an atmosphere like Earth's. It also involves a new sub-species of humans, called Mutants; people with paranormal abilities. I would have liked to have more details about both, maybe a bit of history squeezed in, and how Mars is connected still to Earth, but maybe the author wasn't ready to reveal all of that yet. I can understand that. If it was a stand-alone I would feel the missing details were too important, but it isn't. It's a series and there's plenty of story time to reveal more.

T.A. Uner introduces us to the Mars year 2137, where we meet Mindcop Liberty Rise, who is investigating the death of a young man she quickly discovers was murdered via his ties to some kind of Genetics testing program. Her ability to Mind-shift (send her mind back in time to view a person's history - cool, right?) makes her a valuable asset to the investigation, but her detective partner's mutant prejudices get under her skin fast. That, and she finds him to be blunt and rather offensive. But it's all in the line of duty as Liberty drums up the leads and they get closer and closer to the answers they're searching for.

As "Doctor Mars" is the first in a series, you might expect an annoying cliffhanger but the author doesn't do that to us. You know who the bad guy is, you have your answers, and you can guess what book 2 is going to bring you - and you want it, too! So get your copy, put it on your tablet device, and remember it's there the next time you're in the mood for a quick, engrossing read. And if you're at the doctor's office, you'll find you won't even be annoyed that they made you wait.

NeverEnding Email Foils Plans

So, an update from me, to remind myself to post regularly and so that my readers know I'm truly making the effort to regain my read2review stamina.

I've spent a lot of hours getting back to people via Goodreads, reacquainting myself with the book titles and authors I made a commitment to, refreshing my memory of those books I read while I was stuck sick in bed, and clawing through a gazillion emails, barely making a dent I might add. =S I had planned to get back to a few authors today and then post a review or three, but I got swept away and squished under the weighty mass of messages and emails accumulated over 5 months of inactivity. I *know* there are more author emails - I spotted a couple I can't seem to find again, probably buried some 30 pages back, but I am going to have to call it for today and beg your patience with me a little while longer. I've already overdone the sitting up today and I'm gonna pay for it. I will accept it as my penance but will also accept flogging by  live guppies.

Tomorrow we are celebrating my husband's birthday so I don't plan to be on, but Monday... oh, Monday... I will post a review BEFORE I open that dastardly email! I will conquer you yet, Neverending Email! May the Power of Chihuahua defend you!

Yeah. I'm going to lay down now.

Best wishes,
Your Sinister Sister

P.S. I see that there is still a problem with blogger warning people I'm a scary link. I'd sure like to know why it does that...

Where, oh Where, Have I Been?

Dear readers, I know at least one or two of you have noticed my absence (especially if you've been waiting on me for a review), so you have probably tapped your chin. stroked your glorious mustache, and wondered where I could be. Oh why have I been absent for the last 5 months? Have I been abducted by aliens? Did I join a cult worshiping the purple unicorn? Alas, no. I've been mostly bedridden since Thanksgiving of last year. No joke. I missed holiday and birthday get-togethers, I forgot important dates, a dearly loved relative passed on and I was unwell to the point that I could hardly acknowledge it. If it weren't for my truly precious, loving family, I'm not sure I'd have made it out the other side of this.

The last two months have been near daily doctor appointments, new medications, procedures, blood tests, scans, and therapy. I've had so much blood drawn, been on antibiotics for a disease I DO NOT have, and wound up crazy ill with some mystery ailment that led to dozens of vials of blood from my veins, side-effect heavy meds, an ER visit, an endoscopy, a brain scan, and lordy I'm just too exhausted from it all to keep talking about it. BUT I will say this - I beg you, pay attention to what medications you put in your body and understand that you know yourself best. Sometimes doctors don't have all the answers and sometimes while trying to help you, they make you worse. Be aware. And advocate for yourself.

Now that I am finally feeling human again, I wish to give my deepest and heartfelt apologies to the authors who have been patiently waiting on me. Likely wondering if I jumped ship and gave up blogging; gave up reviewing. I have not. I just had a forced break from it.

To get back on track and try to find my rhythm again, I must not accept any more books until I have caught up on what I owe. So as of today, I am not accepting new books for review, and I won't be doing any book tours until I have my entire backlog of reading commitments satisfied. If you have dropped me a line in my email (ogeezum, my email is so huge, it scares me so!) or made a request of me through Goodreads, I will gladly accept when I work my way there, if you are still interested, of course. But after today, I won't take on new books until I get caught up. (Hopefully, that won't be too far away, as I did get lots of time to read while convalescing!)

I'll update my blog tomorrow and will get back to posting reviews in a few days. Please bare with me a little longer. And if this message to you is barely coherent, well... I'm rusty.

Best wishes and good health,
Rebecca, aka your sinister sister

Excerpt: Murky Haze

Spiraling through the murky haze is a stream of white smoke; Africa’s humid and gloomy weather punctuated the striking of an African “bata” drum; a sign of impending doom in this Never-never land called Oyo, set majestically in the flat plain fields of West Africa.
Wrapped in ruffled white sheets and face painted with pungent white chalk, distinct tribal marks from Oyo; she chuckles and giggles out loud, sometimes overpowering the African “bata” beats rippling the air. This enigma of a mystery woman’s deep tones carries with it an air of danger and magic. Her fiendish chuckles are exaggerated by her threatening mannerisms. She adds to the mystery in the air by thrusting out her spectacularly painted arms, holding a uniquely designed African clay pot filled with bubbling steaming water. The steam spiraling out of the magical pot is hypnotic. She begins to laugh again as the rhythmic African beat gently fades, instantly replaced by an urgent tick-tock sound, intensifying the anxiety. Seeing my clandestine woman’s animated and daunting striking face, Yemoji becomes boisterous as she squints her overpowering eyes; eyeballs fiercely protruding, eliciting intense fear in those who behold the strange sight.

As the tick-tock sound gets louder, Yemoji abruptly clutches her magical pot to her bosom. Her arms stretch out with purpose, displaying her remarkably long claw-like nails. She beckons me closer. Yemoji welcomes hushes me into undeniably captivating presence, placing one finger to her sultry lips.

“Sshh! Sshh!”

Suddenly, the tick-tock sound intensifies yet again as Yemoji’s thunderous and wickedly cold laughter reverberates into the atmosphere.
“Did you hear me? I said.... Sshh! Sshh! Siberia! Si-be-ria!”

Wisdom Nugget from Siberia Tonka:

A person who sows love reaps a harvest of good friends and family. It doesn’t really matter where we come from; we all have something of sentimental value. And this crazy chain of events has led me to my destiny….it has led me to fight for the people I love” ~Siberia

About the Author
Princess Fumi
Stephanie Hancock Ph.D.:

Bestselling Author, NAFCA African Oscar People’s Choice Winner, Indiefest Films Merit Award Filmmaker, TV Host, Transformation Interventionist and Philanthropist are just a few accolades to describe this dynamic woman.

Born in the heart of Nigeria, Lagos State; Princess Fumi Hancock was raised to appreciate her royal roots from the South Western region of Nigeria, Emure Kingdom, where her family, the Adumori Nigeria Royal Household have ruled since the 1800s’.

After acquiring her first degree in English from one of the most prestigious colleges in Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University; she stormed the United States of America with a pen, a script and the dream to change the world. Little did she know that it would take her over thirty years to finally fulfill her dream of becoming a prolific writer and most importantly, one who would have the ability to translate her literary works into movies.

As an author, she has written several inspirational books for women, Beyond Idol Worship: A Diary of an African Warrior Princess; Starting Right Now to name a few! After writing these inspirational books and her return back to African after over 25 years absentia; she reaches out to help her community through her US based nonprofit organization, Adassa Adumori Foundation, Inc. (www.adassafoundation.org); she also decided to venture into the world of young adult fantasy. To her surprise, her very first young adult fantasy, The Adventures of Jewel Cardwell: Hydra’s Nest became an amazon bestseller! There has been no stopping her since then.

Her new novel, Of Sentimental Value, a mystery and suspense drama is yet another landmark for her. The book was made into a feature film which is scheduled for release soon (www.ofsentimentalvaluemovie.com ). In the advent of its release, it has garnered multiple award interest. It was nominated in the NAFCA African Oscar Peoples’ Choice category for Favorite Trailer and Original Score while the Princess took home the winning trophy as Favorite Screenwriter. Since then, the movie itself has been nominated in the following categories: Best Diaspora Drama and Best Make-up. One of our supporting actors, Malik Yoba was also nominated as Actor in Foreign Film category.

Princess Fumi is one who truly believes that dreams do come true if we keep plugging away at it and never give up! Her very first crack at writing, she will never forget her professor at a college in New York telling her, “you need to quit! You are a horrible writer!” “I was devastated,” she said. But did not allow that to keep her down. With time, even the professor finally announced to the post graduate class that she was the best student he’d ever had. That screenplay, “The Royal Bird” ended up winning Best Screenplay of the year in 1988 in a New York festival. It was later auctioned to one of the largest television stations in Africa, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). The rest of her time today is spent presenting her new empowerment program, Your Vision Torch, an Innovator’s Prescription to Igniting Your Dreams and Harnessing Your Vision to leaders, business owners and women across Africa and the United States of America. Cocoon to Butterfly™ Series: From RN Boardroom to Hollywood – How an African Princess in Diaspora Turned Her Writing Passion into Reality & Wealth (Part 1) & Steps to Make It Happen For You Too!

This blog post is dedicated to the dreamers’ out there. Those who have a passion for one thing, yet they find themselves in a frustrated path, doing what they would love to quit and hating what they would love to do without. Have you ever found yourself desperately seeking something? There is a passion inside of you that just won’t let go of your heart. Yet, you have to do other things to put food on the table. What is worse is the age factor which keeps gnawing at you, reminding you that you do not have much time. So if you are going to pursue your dream, this is the time. Suddenly, you set out to pursue that dream and FEAR, the mother of all DISTRACTION stops you on your track. Well, you don’t want to miss this post. My name is Princess Fumi Stephanie Hancock and today, I am more than a bestselling author, an African Oscar winning Screenwriter a speaker, transformation catalyst… My friends call me the “Dreamweaver.”

The road to a successful writing career or any career for that matter is never easy. Particularly when you have worked so hard in one career path; been successful or somewhat comfortable in that career yet you know time is pushing fast and your true calling is beating down your heart. Growing up, I have always known I would become a writer. If you asked my parents, they would gladly tell you my writing career started at two when I decided to start penning down my thoughts on any document I would lay my hands on! Never mind if what I was penning was somewhat “gibberish.” Fact is, I was making up stories at 2, and then pretending to be writing them down.

After my graduation from college, I was so excited to be done. I quickly persuaded my father, Prince T.A Ogunleye, the prince of Emure Kingdom in the Southwestern region of Nigeria, to allow me come to the US to further my graduate studies in Communication Arts, writing for the Visual Media. After much deliberation, we reached a consensus ~ That I would come here and complete my studies in 18 months then return home to Africa. Well, I concluded the studies in 12 months but did not return home to Nigeria. Life took its course and before I knew it, I was married at a very young age… found myself in a tumultuous relationship… alone, completed depleted and finally divorced; left with a broken heart, an empty bank account, a foreclosed home and a lost mind! After 6 months of being in a state of shock, I came out of my madness, and then decided to become a Social Worker. With the years of struggling to care for my two boys as a single mother, my broken pride of not wanting my family back home to know I had failed, I decided I was no longer satisfied with what Social Work had to offer. So, I went back to college. This time, I became a Nurse. How many know that no matter what you use to fill the void, until you do what you are destined for, you will continue to feel the desperation and frustration. I was no different. I had worked my way up the ladder in the nursing field, and now worked for a prestigious healthcare global giant, I was now in the big leagues and I still wasn’t satisfied.

I had vowed I was not going back to writing after my very first movie was stolen and made into a block buster movie! Even as a princess, the trail of failure was enough to send me packing and just leaving for good. But my sons were my strengths and my Creator my anchor.

The Change of Events~ One Event Can Change Your Life Forever and mine did after 30 years! Few years back, I decided to give writing another chance. I was now making good money, yet completely unsatisfied! I decided to write a genre I was not familiar with ~ The Young Adult Fantasy & Romance: The Adventures of Jewel Cardwell: Hydras Nest. It was the best move I ever made. It freed my little self and allowed me to visit places in my childhood I wouldn’t dare to go in real life. It is 2015, and I am happy to say that the Young Adult Novel is still on Amazon’s Bestseller list as #28 in its’ category.

I needed validation from my readers and I got it in October 2012 when the novel hit Amazon’s Bestseller as #4! It was all I needed to know that I wanted more of that. So I took to writing again and penned, Of Sentimental Value, which I am happy to report remains # 1Bestselling Romantic Suspense in its category as of today (12/2/2014).

Dreams do come through if we have the courage to make them happen. Dreams do not have legs of their own. As such, we are architect of our dreams and our life destination.

Today, I am so happy to say that my nursing career has indeed paid off. As a writer and a filmmaker, I get to nurse my characters to life. I have a platform where I am able to allow my characters to tell their own stories, stories which my readers often relate to. It is my hope that as a writer, I am able to provide opportunities or arenas where my readers can dream, relief their life tensions, laugh, cry, and ultimately get a clearer perspective on their own lives. Above all, I want to entertain my readers and hopefully I get to do that for the rest of my life.

My Wisdom Nuggets for the Day:
Your Success Starts With Your Mindset:

(1). If your mindset is not handled, you will never achieve what you set out to achieve as a writer
(2). Never allow fear or anyone to dictate how high you can jump where your dreams are concerned;
(3). The only thing standing in your way is YOU. Move out of the way and allow the Innovative Star Writer™ be unleased.
(4). You can do it. Just believe it, take massive action to make it happen.
(5). Do not go into writing because you think it is glamorous. Start writing because it is what you love and you have something to say.
(6). Above all, regardless of your age, it is never too late. So if you are a reader and dream of one day penning your own novel… GO AHEAD, DO IT NOW. Starting Right Here, Declare that you are a writer and begin to walk in that understanding.

A sentimental tale of family and the traditions that make us who we are, Of Sentimental Value will thrill and entertain you with its colorful mix of characters and intriguing story line. Bringing this story to life is an eclectic mix of actors and actresses that are well known to the big to the acting community. Of Sentimental Value is a must see and can be thoroughly enjoyed by the entire family. LACHELLE REED, Author of When Angels Fall….

I absolutely loved the story and its’ compelling trailer. I loved how it began and ended. The mystery woman certainly evokes a great deal of curiosity and then there is the Silleri stone... I really want to know more about that. It has the fantasy mystery about it. I showed it to my son and he loved it as well. The background music in the trailer is just awesome and adds to the mysterious effect. Congratulations.

Industry Review:
“Of Sentimental Value” does a super job demonstrating the worth of every individual who lives on this planet. The film is unique in that it opens with actors in the movie sharing painful moments of their past, including abuse and health issues, and how they moved forward to find their “worth” as people of value. One actress tells of her manic depression and suicidal thoughts, but how she pushed through after hearing the voice of God speaking to her spirit, telling her she had a purpose and a reason to live. The themes of perseverance and faith are to be commended. We are awarding our Dove Family-Approved Seal for ages twelve plus to “Of Sentimental Value.” This film has many inspiring moments!”
